Homework forms an important
part of the curriculum in the primary school and is an opportunity for children
to practice and develop the skills they have learned in class as well as
developing a positive attitude towards independent study.
Homework varies from
year-to-year but as a rule children will receive a piece of maths and a piece
of literacy homework each week, supplemented by thematic work. The amount
of homework will increase as children move up through the age ranges.
Homework should largely be
self-supported but it is often helpful if a parent is there to assist and offer
encouragement. In order to support the differing family situations and
schedules we usually give homework out on a week day. Children will have a
period of time to complete it which incorporates a weekend. This means
that we can allow children time to work at whichever time and rate suits them
